Using Social Media Tools to Improve Workplace Learning

Social media have triggered profound shifts in how we communicate and collaborate. For learning professionals, this shift offers unique opportunities for improving performance in the workplace while reducing costs associated with formal training events. However, social media can sometimes be viewed as disruptive causing us to rethink how work – and learning – happens. Peer-rating and tagging of content and collaborative authoring, for example, disrupt the traditional role of many corporate training departments. This session will explore how organizations can use social media tools to support learning that is increasingly informal and user-driven.  Attendees will learn:

About Janet Clarey

Janet’s background is in corporate learning & development. Currently, she is a Senior Researcher and Analyst with Brandon Hall Research.

Janet has worked on large scale learning technology implementations and is experienced in curriculum development and instructional design.

As a learning industry analyst, Janet strives to help organizations make sense of the changing learning environment. Her goal is to work with organizations to apply research to create a sustainable, effective strategy.

Janet writes for two award-winning e-learning blogs and manages Brandon Hall Research’s social media. She attends graduate school at Syracuse University in the instructional design program where she is working on her PhD.
